Agreements for construction of streets, water supply, procurement of machinery, signed in 12 municipalities

20th August 2019, Skopje - Today, Denar 165 million was made available to 12 municipalities through the Municipal Services Improvement Project -MSIP, being implemented by Ministry of Finance with World Bank support. Funds will be used for construction of local streets, water supply, renovation of kindergarten, procurement of machinery for construction of Skate Park.

Today, Deputy Minister of Finance Shiret Elezi signed agreements with the mayors of the Municipalities of Tetovo, Kocani, Delcevo, Brvenica, Butel, Debrca, Ilinden, Kisela Voda, Gazi Baba, Gevgelija i Cesinovo Oblesevo.

Denar 136.8 million, out of the total funds, are loans under exceptionally favourable interest rates, accounting for below 1%, while Denar 28 million are grant funds for the municipalities.

- By implementing these projects, the residents of these 12 municipalities will be provided better municipal services. As you can see, there are municipalities from all regions. Municipal Services Improvement Project is precisely focused thereon - to encourage investments in capital projects, through loans, as well as grant funds, which will provide for improving the life in all municipalities in the country.

Municipalities of Tetovo, Kocani and Delcevo are granted loans through the Municipal Services Improvement Project. They will be used for construction of boulevard and streets.  In Tetovo, the loan of Denar 60.6 million will be used to extend “Vidoe Smilevski Bato” Boulevard, which is the main road for the heavy traffic, moving from Skopje, Tetovo and Gostivar towards the border crossing. As for Kocani, 11 streets will be built or their construction will be finalized, six out of which are in the urban area, while five of them are  located in the rural area, in Trkamnje and Orizari Villages.  As for Delcevio, Denar 23.3 million will be used for reconstruction of two existing streets and one unpaved street in the city.

Mayor of Tetovo Teuta Arifi stressed that the project, which will be realized in its municipality - extension of the Boulevard “Vidoe Smilevski - Bato", is of exceptional importance for all citizens from the Polog region.

-Each municipality must be creditworthy so as to be able to apply for such projects. Realization of such projects improve the municipal services provided to the citizens, thus providing better living conditions in the municipalities - Arifi said.

Grant funds were allocated to the Municipalities of Brvenica, Butel, Debrca, Gostivar, ilinden, Kisela Voda, Gazi Baba, Gevgelija and Cesinovo Oblesevo. They will be used for construction of water supply, construction of Skate Park, renovation of kindergarten, procurement of machinery and street lighting.  Gazi Baba will use the grant of Denar 5.13 million for tbhe Project “Construction of Main and Secondary Water Supply Network - Branch 1 and Branch 8 for the Lower Zone in the Village of Rastak". Kisela Voda Municipality will, use the grant funds amounting to Denar 4.74 million, for energy efficient adaption of the kindergarten "Veseli Cvetovi - Mimoza Facility".  Gevgelija will, with grant funds amounting to Denar 4.17 million, build water supply network covering 1.7 kilometers in Karaorman settlement. Butel will use the grant in the amount of Denar 3.66 million for procurement of special machine - road sweeper. Brvenica will use the grant of Denar 3 million for procuring machinery for performing the municipal services. Ilinden obtained a grant of Denar 2.9 million, which will be used for building a skate park. Gostivar has been allocated a grant of Denar 2.6 million, which will be used for procuring a vehicle for maintenance of street lighting system. Grant in the amount of Denar 1.5 million was given to Cesinovo Oblesevo, which will be sued for procuring a vehicle and machinery. Debrca Municipality has obtained a grant of Denar 336 thousand, which will be used for procuring computer equipment for the municipality.

Mayor of the Municipality Gazi Baba Boris Georgiecsjki said that by implementing the Project “Construction of Main And Secondary Water Supply Network - Branch 1 And Branch 8 for the Lower Zone in the Village of Rastak", will provide for resolving the water supply -related issue there. He stressed that such local projects will provide for improving the living conditions of the citizens in the municipalities.

Anyway, the total amount of the Municipal Services Improvement Project, which the Ministry of Finance implements with support from the World Bank and the European Commission reached EUR 100 million. These funds have been used for financing more than 230 capital projects in all municipalities in the country so far.
